A Little About the Supervisor
Dr. Beatriz Alaniz, LCSW-S, DSW
“As Social Workers, we all have our stories that lead us to this profession and for those of us that take that additional step into the clinical licensure journey, we have our stories that lead us to take that leap as well. I have been a social worker for 19 years, but 10 years ago I took the leap to finally pursue my clinical licensure. My clinical supervisor played a pivotal role in my journey. He was not only compassionate, kind, and highly effective as a therapist, he was also flexible. I strive to have all these traits and more to offer to my supervisees.
In 2020, I attained my Board-Approved Supervision status to my clinical license and since then have guided, supported and have been fortunate enough to witness the successful transition of my supervisees from being LMSW therapists to independently-practicing LCSW clinicians. I will be your biggest cheerleader and supporter and also challenge you to implement evidence-based interventions with your clients to grow as a clinician.
I am not new to mentorship, field supervision, teaching, training and holding workshops in my community. Since 2021, I've provided training to CPS workers, fellow community social workers and services providers on motivational interviewing, assessment and diagnosis, trauma-informed care, and preparing for the license exam. I've been asked to return each year.
After the floods in July 2025, I provided an art therapy and mindfulness-based workshop for front-line case management workers who assisted in the floods and was asked to return to provide training to a bigger audience.
My doctorate capstone concentrated on the traumatic impacts of family separation tactics embedded in immigration policies on our fellow undocumented neighbors and their families, and I continue to research and present on this topic.”
Supervision That Nurtures Growth
Those 100 supervision hours aren't just a requirement, they're an investment in your future as a therapist. The skills, confidence, and clinical judgment you develop during supervision will shape how you practice for years to come.
Whether you choose individual supervision, group supervision, or a combination of both, I can help you gain the hours you need while developing into the clinical social worker you want to be.
A Supervisory Relationship Built on Trust
I remember what it was like to be where you are now, uncertain, eager to learn, sometimes overwhelmed by the responsibility of this work. You deserve supervision that meets you where you are with encouragement, not criticism. You'll receive supportive feedback that builds confidence. You'll never feel judged or inadequate in our supervision sessions. My goal is to create a relationship where you feel safe asking questions, admitting when you're unsure, and exploring your clinical mistakes as learning opportunities rather than failures.
Emphasis on Self-Awareness and Self-Care
Great therapists aren't just technically skilled, we're self-aware, have boundaries, and are committed to our own well-being. We'll pay attention to how client work affects you, help you develop healthy boundaries, and ensure you're building sustainable practices that prevent burnout.
Real-World Focus
Theory is important, but clinical work is about applying that theory to real human beings with complex lives. We'll focus on practical skills, realistic interventions, and the kind of clinical decision-making you'll actually use in your practice. Learn how to apply your knowledge to actual client situations, developing clinical skills that work in the real world.
Culturally Responsive Practice
Effective therapy requires cultural humility and awareness of how systems of oppression affect our clients. We'll discuss how to provide culturally responsive care, recognize your own biases, and create truly inclusive therapeutic relationships.
Options to Meet Your Needs
Whether you prefer one-on-one mentorship or the collaborative energy of group learning, I offer supervision formats designed to support your growth as a clinician.
Individual Supervision
Personalized Mentorship
Individual supervision provides dedicated time focused entirely on your clinical development. This is where we dive deep into your specific cases, challenges, and growth areas.
What Individual Supervision Includes:
Case consultation tailored to your caseload and practice setting
Personalized feedback on your therapeutic approach and interventions
Support navigating ethical dilemmas and complex clinical situations
Guidance on documentation, treatment planning, and clinical skills
Focus on your unique learning style and professional goals
Safe space to process countertransference and clinical challenges
Individual supervision allows us to customize our time together based on what you need most at each stage of your development. Some sessions might focus on skill-building, others on case conceptualization, and still others on your own emotional responses to client work.
Group Supervision
Virtual Group Sessions: Monday Evenings
Group supervision offers the unique benefit of learning not just from me, but from your peers—fellow clinicians who are navigating similar challenges and bringing diverse perspectives.
What Group Supervision Includes:
Peer-to-Peer Consultation: Practice giving and receiving feedback with other clinicians.
Case Sharing: Present your cases for group input, gaining multiple perspectives and creative intervention ideas
Training Videos: Watch and discuss clinical demonstrations, analyzing techniques and therapeutic approaches
Practice Test Questions: Prepare for your licensing exam with group review and discussion of practice questions
Experiential Learning: Engage in exercises that deepen self-awareness and strengthen clinical skills
Group supervision creates a supportive community where you can learn from others' experiences, realize you're not alone in your challenges, and build professional relationships that often last beyond your supervision hours.
